Society

Unresolved people problems at work usually have far reaching impacts on Society as a whole, including in the home, on relationships or for organisations such as the NHS/DHSS

The Wellbeing @ Work Foundation is a new, not for profit initiative, that aims to change and improve the way we work. With more of us working longer hours, under increasing pressure and rising instances of work-related stress and injuries, it has never been more important to create the right work environment and culture.

Recent research indicates that almost 14 million working days were lost due to work-related stress, depression, and anxiety. This has negative consequences for the individual in terms of their wellbeing, health, finances, relationships, family and overall self-worth. From a social, business and economic perspective the costs in money, lost time and disruption are substantial. The consequences of people being absent or unable to work productively as a result of stress, illness, or injury are well known. The impact on society is that individuals often end up on long term benefits, experience long term health problems, suffer financial issues, become embroiled in litigation and experience personal or family relationship problems.

In many cases Wellbeing or Performance issues can prevent employers from expanding their business, employing more people or in the case of many Small Medium Enterprise (SME) companies, put them out of business altogether. All too often, Government bodies such as the Department of Work and Pensions / Department of Health (formerly DHSS) or NHS are left to pay, putting a huge burden on much needed resources.

What are the benefits to Society? We are currently experiencing a very tough economic climate, which has wide ranging effects on individuals, businesses and society. Educating business owners, organisations and government on how to cultivate effective wellbeing and good people management to deliver the following benefits: -

  • Improving the physical and mental health of individuals
  • Creating positive relationships amongst family, friends and colleagues
  • Ensuring people feel valued, consequently increasing their self-worth
  • Reducing crime, including business-related crime
  • Minimising the number of people reliant on benefits
  • Diminishing suicide instances, divorce rates and family break ups
  • Easing financial pressures on the economy, business and individuals
  • Helping companies to grow and expand, thus impacting positively on the economy

By helping one business we hope to be able to help many individuals resulting in a healthier, happier, more productive and safer society for us all.
